Ruby Red Tuesday--WELCOME HOME

My Husband's Unit Finally Made it home Sunday, just in time for Valentine's Day. After spending a year in a Afghanistan, the families were gathered for a Welcome Home Ceremony, in anticipation of seeing their soldier.
You might recall one of my last posts, that I had mentioned my husband actually came back earlier. Not because of the best circumstances, but not the worst either. My husband had to come back due to Heart related issues, and ended up having a Cardiac Oblasion to remove an extra pathway in his heart. Scary Stuff! And though he was "home" he wasn't home. I'm not complaining....I did see him on weekends, and he we did spend the holidays together, but he wasn't even at his home duty station....he was 3 hours away. It, at times, was more difficult than having him half a world away.
In any case, his entire team is back, safe, sound, and with their loved ones. Including my husband. He was released from the Warrior Transition Unit, and allowed to come back to his actual duty station a few weeks ago.
I couldn't think of a more perfect subject for Ruby Tuesday!!

Ruby Red Tuesday--OH BABY

I recently did a Photo shoot for some Friends. They wanted Maternity photos, and Family photos. We had a wonderful day! Thanks Guys for letting me help preserve your precious family moments! Their Bouncing Baby Boy will make his Debute TOMORROW!! Can't wait to meet him!

Ruby Tuesday--Annie

I love living near a large city, especially when that city happens to be Austin Texas. Its a great city. Diverse, the people are friendly, and there is always something to do. Especially in the Summer. And Often times, those things to do, are FREE! Every year the Zilker Theatre Productions puts on a Free Summer show at the Zilker Ampitheatre. One year hubby and I saw South Pacific--GREAT show! Last year we took our oldest Daughter to see the Music Man. This year we didn't make the production while Hubby was home for R&R, but my daughter still really wanted to see it. So, we made the trek in to downtown Austin for the show, just she and I. It was a Girls Date night! What fun! We got fruit smoothies on the way in, enjoyed the show immensely, and then on the way home hit another Austin Favorite AMY'S ICE CREAM!
I don't know about you, but when I hear the word "annie" I automatically think RED hair, and RED dress! Perfect for Ruby Tuesday! :-)

Ruby Tuesday-NASA (Johnson) Space Center

A couple of weeks ago we headed to the Johnson Space Center in Houston Texas. We had so much fun, despite the fact that we were down there while Hurricane Alex was hitting the Texas Coast. We spent much of our trip in wet clothes, and walking around in the rain, but what an awesome experience to be able to take our girls to! We saw actual rockets, training facilities still in use by astronauts (sadly, none while we were there), read remarkable history about the space program, walked through a shuttle cockpit, came face to face with the inner workings of a rocket 2 football fields long, and at least 2 stories tall!! But mostly, I hope we instilled in our girls that Space, Science, and Exploration isn't limited to men only. That just because they are girls, they can be interested in all of those things too! It was actually my oldest daughter's desire to go, she loves science! :-) And I believe this trip will stick with her for years to come, just as it the trip I took as a youngster did with me!

Ruby Red Tuesday--Celebrating

I am sure many will be sharing photos for this week's Ruby Tuesday from their 4th of July festivities, and those that know me, know I really don't like to run with the pack on anything...however....this 4th of July was more than Celebrating America's Independence, it was a CELEBRATION of Family, love, Unity, and togetherness. As many know, my husband is a Solider in the Army, and is currently home for mid tour break!! I can't tell you how sweet life is right now (also the reason I've been MIA from blogging) 4th of July has always been a special holiday for us. It's about so much more than BBQs (actually, for us it's my homemade Fried Chicken), and Fireworks...it's about truly being thankful for our Freedoms. Those Freedoms that my husband has worked so hard to protect for almost 20 years now! We can celebrate our INDEPENDENCE because of the those who fought for it long ago, those Soldiers willing to put their lives on the line for a cause they believed in, for a Nation they knew we could once be.

In Honor of July 4th, I will be sharing some RED, white, and Blue photos this week!! Enjoy! And may we all remember how blessed we are to live in the Land of the FREE, BECAUSE of the BRAVE!

Ruby Tuesday--a Tribute

Yesterday here in the US, we celebrated Memorial Day. A Day to remember those heroes who gave the ultimate gift for our Freedoms. So, in honor of those men and women, the sacrifice they have made, and to honor those who Still serve, today's Ruby Tuesday is from a few photos I took yesterday while attending the Memorial Day Service at the Central Texas State Veterans Memorial. Be Thankful for your freedoms, and remember the price that was paid for those freedoms.








Thank you for visiting, please remember our Soldiers, Past and Present, not only on Memorial Day, but everyday!! Supporting our troops is the best gift we can give them!

Ruby Tuesday--Red Hibiscus

Went to the Zoo this weekend, and saw some beautiful Hibiscus there!! I was running after bunch of girls, so didn't get time to stop and taking pics of any but this one! I Love hibiscus, this is an unusual species which I haven't seen before. Made for the perfect Ruby red Photo today!

Ruby Tuesday--Buddy Poppy

Do you know what a Buddy Poppy is?? To many Americans its a Symbol of Pride, Sacrifice, Honor, Dignity, and mostly Support. Support for our Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). My Husband is a Veteran. My Grandfather was a Veteran. My Husband's dad, Granddad, Great Grand dad, and Great Great Granddad, ALL Veterans. So when we were at a Chain store recently, and the local VFW Vets were outside handing out Buddy Poppies, My girls and I scooped them up. I explained to my girls what the Poppies were, who the men were, and why we wear them. Of course it all hit a little close to home! :) After leaving the store, I set them in the car so that I may look at them, and be thankful for my freedoms, and for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for me, each time I get behind the wheel. Next time You see the VFW handing out Buddy Poppies, show your support, Wear it Proudly. And Please keep it, don't throw it away, or on the ground, they were made with care, and love for YOU to enjoy, and remember! If you'd like a complete History on the Buddy Poppy, click here

Ruby Tuesday--DP Museum

Its Tuesday, that can only mean one thing--time for RUBY TUESDAY! This week I am getting around to posting some of the Rubies I captured while at the DR Pepper Museum a few weeks ago. If you live around the Waco, TX area, or if you are planning a trip this way, this Museum is VERY interesting, especially for a DP lover! Its got a little of this and that though, so put it on your to do list next time you are close!

An Old Fire Alarm! My youngest tried to see if it still worked!! Luckily we didn't find out!! LOL


I always knew Coca Cola had it, but never knew DP did...hmmm...no wonder it put a "Pep" in people's step!! ;-)


There are a variety of Bottles in the displays...its quite the history lesson!



Gotta Get Dr Pepper to the people SOMEHOW!! LOL


This seems easier, and more comfortable, but I think I'd still be worried about it falling out the sides on a sharp turn! :)


And last but not least, you have to have a Cigar While having your DP!! LOL Not really....this was in a display case trying to dipict the old corner store where DP Was invented

Ruby Red Tuesday--Past Life

I've always been intrigued by the "Days of Ole" I'm sure if I could time travel, and know what I know now, living in the 1800s, and traveling across country in a covered wagon, eating by camp fire every night, washing and hanging my clothes to dry all by hand, wouldn't be my idea of "fun" But I have always wished I could, briefly, know what it was like to live in the 1800s. Curiosity gets the best of me when it comes to this era. I'm drawn in by the clothes, the inventions--and the minds it took to come up with such big Ideas--the customs, the large Southern Plantations, the morals, and work ethic, etc.
So, when I was at the Zoo this past week and ran across this authentic Covered Wagon, with back open, and dishes sitting there, and the big RUBY wheels, I knew this would be my subject for Ruby Tuesday this week. My daughter didn't think it was REAL...I'm not sure if it is real, or a real good replica, but in either case, you could almost hear the horses around you, the clinking of the metal pot as fire brewed coffee was poured into a metal cup, and the fire as it crackled in the background.

Ruby Tuesday--Ruby Red....BOOT

This week I had to go dig through my archives again. I'm glad Spring is just around the corner...I need to get out and take some new Ruby Red Photos!! Today's is of a Ruby Red BOOT...Wonder what Dorothy would have thought about Ruby red BOOTS to get her home!?!? :)
A couple of years ago, on a trip through West Texas, I came across this fence lined with boots, old and new. It was unique, a little shocking, and just plain WEIRD!
The most perplexing (and fitting for today's challenge) was a pair of BRAND NEW red boots. Why would someone put an unused pair of boots out for the weather?!?! I don't know, I never even saw a person drive down the back country road I was on...that's how far out into no where I was. Which begs the question of not only WHY, but WHO????
It certainly ranks up there with strange and unusual things you can find, if you just keep your eyes open! Part of what I love about Texas back roads....you will ALWAYS find SOMETHING to photograph!



Though it doesn't really fit the Ruby Red theme, here's what the whole fence looked like (and went down the other way (behind me) also!

Ruby Tuesday-Sweet Treat

I apparently haven't run across anything red lately, as I couldn't find a recent photo for today's Ruby Tuesday. Instead, I found a series of photos I had taken a while back for just such a day....and NEVER used them! Of course, now I'm glad I hadn't ;-) So...here's my Ruby Tuesday..a sweet treat, for me, and my girls!
